Overview

The objective of the OTHM Level 5 Extended Diploma in Psychology qualification is to provide learners with a specialist programme of study that provides a depth of knowledge and understanding of key aspects within the field of Psychology in in Level 5 diploma in psychology.

Learners will study level 4 and 5 units, worth 120 credits per academic year with a total credit value of 240 credits (equivalent to the first 2 years of an honours degree).

The Level 4 units lay the foundation for learning by introducing relevant topics. Learners explore historical and contemporary approaches to psychology, including biopsychology, social and developmental psychology, attachment theories, human memory processes, and contemporary research and investigation methods.

Course Outline

The OTHM Level 5 Extended Diploma in Psychology qualification consists of twelve mandatory units, 240 credits, 2400 hours Total Qualification Time (TQT) and the recommended Guided Learning Hours (GLH) for this qualification is a minimum of 1200 hours.

To achieve the OTHM Level 5 Extended Diploma in Psychology qualification, learners must achieve 240 credits, of which 120 credits are at Level 4 (6 units) and 120 credits are at Level 5 (6 units).

These qualifications are designed for learners who are typically aged 18 and above.

Assessment

All units within this qualification are internally assessed by the center and externally verified by OTHM. The qualifications are criterion referenced, based on the achievement of all the specified learning outcomes.

To achieve a ‘pass’ for a unit, learners must first provide evidence that they have fulfilled all the learning outcomes. They must also meet the standards specified by all assessment criteria. The Assessor will then review this evidence to make a judgment. Afterward, the Assessor determines whether the learners have successfully met the criteria. Additionally, the Assessor should create an audit trail. This audit trail will clearly show how the judgment of the learners’ overall achievement was reached.

If you’re inactive for a prolonged period, meaning you’re not engaging in course activities such as logging into the learning portal, attending scheduled classes, or submitting assignments, LCFP will send you reminders to encourage your participation. If you fail to respond to three reminders, you may be withdrawn from the course. It’s essential to stay engaged and communicate with us if you encounter any difficulties during your studies.

If you’re struggling academically, LCFP is here to support you. Upon failing an assignment, you’ll receive detailed feedback to help you improve. However, if you fail the same assignment twice, you’ll receive a formal warning about potential withdrawal from the course. Continued poor academic performance despite the warning may lead to withdrawal. We encourage you to take advantage of our support services and communicate any challenges you face during your studies.

Unfortunately, students who are withdrawn from the course due to inactivity or poor academic performance are not eligible for a refund. It’s important to maintain engagement and academic progress to avoid withdrawal. If you’re withdrawn and wish to re-enroll, you’ll need to meet specific criteria, and there will be a re-enrolment fee of £250.

If your first submission doesn’t meet all the assessment criteria, you’ll receive a grade of “refer” along with detailed feedback from your tutor/assessor.
